Computer Operator

About the role:
The individual is responsible for performing all required workloads of computer operations, i.e. creating/ deleting/scheduling/executing batch jobs, performing automated and manual proactive checking. Monitoring and responding accordingly to Network/software/hardware/ environmental alerts for all client offices, identifying/handling issues in accordance with established procedures, understanding and supporting OB IT SLA for system and software availability. Additionally, the individual is responsible for providing assistance to Data Center trainees

Key Responsibilities:

  • Under general supervision, monitors daily production batch processing using ControlM and responds accordingly to scheduling/executing issues in support of SLA. Processes user's requests for production additions/deletions/alterations. With urgency and in accordance to procedures, responds to production abends and uses available tools to evaluate each issue and assists with troubleshooting striving for timely resolution.
  • Operates with 99.9% error free performance while creating/deleting/scheduling/ restarting jobs.
  • Using available tools monitor all computer platforms, hardware/software, network and environmental systems performance and availability. Monitor, review and correct (when possible) automated proactive checks alerts in accordance to OPS procedures striving to prevent system outages.
  • Actively participates in shift turnover, responsible for accuracy and clarity of the turnover report. Also, responsible for accuracy of Data Center documentation.
  • Responsible for creating/updating/deactivating jobs.
  • Provide commendable customer support by processing requests received over the phone, email and chat.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Solid understanding of Data Center responsibilities with two years of institutional knowledge.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including both verbal (fluent in English) and written communication.
  • Ability to create new and follow existing procedures.
  • Proficient with computer software including current Windows Operating System, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Outlook, Argent, ISX, Wily, Insight Manager, ArgentD, Avocent, and ControlM.
  • Ability to think 'out of the box' when handling problems.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting.
  • Customer focused.
  • Ability to work 12hr shifts (day, nights, holidays, weekends and on request).
  • Able to prioritize workload and deliver expected results when working with multiple issues and under pressure of SLA.

Required Education and/or Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
