About this role. . .

The Accountant is responsible for managing day-to-day financial operations including bookkeeping, payroll, accounts payable/receivable, and tax compliance. Supports reporting, audit preparation, and ensures accurate and timely processing of financial transactions across multiple clients.

Key Responsibilities:

Core Accounting & Bookkeeping Responsibilities

  • Perform
    bank reconciliations
    , maintain the
    general ledger
    , and manage
    bookkeeping
    tasks.
  • Conduct
    balance sheet reconciliations
    and oversee
    accounts payable/receivable
    operations.
  • Prepare
    monthly and quarterly management accounts
    for client review.
  • Process
    weekly payroll
    for employees across multiple clients.

Payments & Supplier Management

  • Execute
    electronic payments
    to debtor accounts in line with client policies and procedures.
  • Handle
    accounts payable invoices
    , including bank payments and supplier account reconciliations.
  • Set up suppliers, post invoices and credit card transactions, organize payments, and reconcile delivery dockets.
  • Ensure compliance with
    statutory payment obligations
    such as WorkCover, payroll tax, and superannuation.

Debt & Claims Management

  • Investigate and follow up on
    outstanding claims
    ,
    credit notes
    , and
    overdue invoices
    .
  • Maintain accurate records of
    outstanding debtors
    and generate regular reports for review and follow-up.

Financial Reporting & Compliance

  • Process
    monthly and quarterly activity statements
    , including
    Business Activity Statements (BAS)
    and
    Instalment Activity Statements (IAS)
    .
  • Complete
    month-end close procedures
    , including general ledger reconciliations, accruals, and journal postings.
  • Reconcile
    GST transactions
    with payments made to the ATO.
  • Ensure
    timely completion of required tax reporting
    .

Audit & Oversight

  • Assist in
    external audits
    by analyzing and scheduling general ledger accounts and providing necessary documentation.
  • Review work of junior staff, including payroll, bank reconciliations, month-end reports, and journal entries.

Expense & Intercompany Transactions

  • Manage
    business credit card reconciliations
    and
    staff expense reimbursements
    .
  • Process
    intercompany transactions and journals
    .

General Duties

  • Investigate and resolve
    financial queries
    and
    invoicing issues
    .
  • Uphold confidentiality and protect the organization's value by maintaining secure financial records.

About You. . .

Qualifications and Skills:

  • 3 - 4 years Australian Accounting experience
  • Strong knowledge of payroll processing, tax compliance, and statutory reporting.
  • Proficient in accounting systems such as Xero, NetSuite, and QuickBooks.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent attention to detail, analytical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple clients and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
  • Experience in supervising or reviewing the work of junior accounting staff is a plus.
