Job Description:
The Building Engineer is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair, and safe operation of the school's physical facilities, utilities, and mechanical systems. The role includes supervising building maintenance personnel, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards, and implementing preventive maintenance programs to preserve the school's infrastructure and equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervision and Coordination
- Supervise and provide technical guidance to maintenance personnel, custodians, and other facilities support staff.
- Schedule and monitor daily maintenance activities, ensuring timely completion of work orders.
- Evaluate staff performance and recommend training or improvements as needed.
Facilities Maintenance
- Oversee repair, maintenance, and operation of electrical, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, and structural systems.
- Conduct routine inspections of school buildings, classrooms, and facilities to ensure functionality, cleanliness, and safety.
- Coordinate with external contractors or service providers for major repairs or specialized maintenance.
Preventive Maintenance & Safety
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs for equipment and building systems.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, fire codes, and environmental standards.
- Maintain maintenance logs, inspection reports, and inventory of tools, equipment, and materials.
Budgeting and Resource Management
- Assist in preparing annual maintenance and facilities budget.
- Monitor expenditures and recommend cost-efficient maintenance solutions.
- Manage inventory of supplies and ensure timely procurement.
Emergency Response
- Act as point of contact for building emergencies such as power outages, leaks, or system malfunctions.
- Implement corrective actions and coordinate quick response with relevant departments.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
- Licensed Professional Mechanical or Electrical Engineer (preferred).
Experience:
- At least 2 years of experience in facilities management, building maintenance, or engineering operations.
Supervisory experience in managing maintenance or technical staff is required.
- Experience in a school or institutional setting is an advantage.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of building systems (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, structural, etc.).
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, plans, and manuals.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in maintenance planning and work order systems.
- Strong attention to safety, cleanliness, and operational efficiency.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
