A Credit and Collection Team Leader manages daily collections operations, leads a team of specialists, oversees the accounts receivable aging, and implements collection strategies to ensure timely payments and optimize cash flow. Key responsibilities include training staff, resolving customer disputes, ensuring compliance with laws and policies, and collaborating with other departments like sales to minimize bad debt.

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Management:

  • Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of collection agents, providing day-to-day guidance and evaluating performance to achieve collection targets.

  • Collections Oversight:

  • Oversee the entire collections process, ensuring timely recovery of outstanding payments and minimizing accounts receivable aging.

  • Strategy & Policy:

  • Develop, implement, and refine collection strategies and policies to improve efficiency, reduce bad debt, and optimize cash flow.

  • Risk Assessment:

  • Evaluate the creditworthiness of new and existing customers and manage accounts receivable risk.

  • Customer Relations:

  • Act as a liaison between customers and the company, resolving billing disputes and negotiating payment arrangements.
  • Reporting:

  • Prepare and present credit and collections reports to management, highlighting key performance indicators and areas for improvement.

  • Compliance:

  • Ensure all collection activities comply with internal financial policies and external laws and regulations.

  • Collaboration:

  • Work closely with sales, finance, and other cross-functional teams to align credit decisions and resolve issues.

  • Process Improvement:

  • Identify opportunities for process enhancements, introduce new technologies, and manage vendor relationships to improve productivity and expense results.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Leadership:

  • Strong leadership skills to guide, motivate, and manage a team.

  • Communication:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective negotiation and customer service.

  • Analytical Skills:

  • Ability to analyze accounts receivable aging, identify patterns, and develop effective collection strategies.

  • Problem-Solving:

  • Proven ability to resolve complex customer disputes and difficult collection issues.

  • Interpersonal Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal skills for collaborating with internal teams and building customer relationships.

  • Knowledge:

  • Understanding of credit policies, collection procedures, and relevant regulations.

  • Experience:

  • Previous experience in credit and collections, ideally with some supervisory or team lead responsibilities.
