Home-based Landscape Estimator

The Estimator is responsible for assisting the Estimating Manager with the accurate estimation and pricing of landscape construction projects across Greater Melbourne and Victoria. These projects include commercial developments, greenfield sites, wetlands, waterways, public open spaces and others The role involves preparing data and background for competitive bids, analyzing project specifications, sourcing materials and subcontractors, and identifying cost-saving opportunities. A strong understanding of wetlands, drainage corridor, streetscapes, playground, structures and steel fabrication is beneficial to accurately estimate elements, assess material requirements, and collaborate with suppliers and contractors. The Estimator plays a key role in securing projects by ensuring accurate, profitable, and timely estimates while aligning with contractual obligations and company objectives set by the Estimating Manager. Qualifications and Experience

Essential (technical skills/knowledge)

• Minimum 3 years in the commercial landscape sector, with hands-on experience in estimating,

project management, scheduling, and on-ground implementation.

• Formal qualifications in Landscape Architecture, Engineering, Landscape Construction, Project

Management, or a related field.

• Strong understanding of landscape construction, civil works, horticulture, hardscape, steel

fabrication, and contract administration.

• Proven ability to price and estimate large-scale landscape and civil projects, including Landscape

installation, pits, pipes, earthworks, irrigation, drainage, electrical, steel structures, and concreting.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel – intermediate level preferred).

• Experience with CAD, Planswift, and estimating software.

• Strong written and verbal communication, teamwork, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement

skills.

• Honest, self-motivated, and capable of working independently with a strong work ethic.

Main duties/KPIs

• Participate with the Estimating Team in the preparation of detailed cost estimates for a diverse range of landscape projects, including infrastructure, greenfield estates, public sector works, biodiversity restoration projects, education & others.

• Prepare and review precise and competitive tenders for a variety of landscape construction elements, including structures, paving, concrete pathways, hardscapes, retaining walls, boardwalks, grading, rockwork, playgrounds, irrigation systems, turf management, and planting schemes.

• Ensure meticulous pricing accuracy to achieve profitability across all projects, conducting a comprehensive review of 100% of tenders to identify and rectify any discrepancies or errors.

• Utilize estimating software to validate quantities and cross-check project specifications, ensuring all tender schedules are precise and aligned with client requirements.

• Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations to ensure competitive pricing and efficient project delivery, facilitating seamless handover to construction teams.

• Develop indicative project timelines using Microsoft Project, incorporating realistic timeframes and resource allocations based on project scope.

• Compile detailed feedback on all tender outcomes, both successful and unsuccessful, to understand industry rates

• Prepare and compile comprehensive tender submission packages, ensuring all returnable and supporting documents are accurate and complete.

• Coordinate job activation with Finance and procurement processes with Construction for awarded projects, ensuring timely commencement and alignment with project goals.

• Participate in handovers of projects awarded to Project Managers, ensuring all relevant documentation and project information is provided for effective execution.

• Support site managers by delivering accurate project data and responding to queries to ensure smooth on-site operations.

• Participate collaborative relationships with key internal stakeholders, including project management, estimating, site supervision, administration, nursery, and maintenance teams.

• Identify and pursue opportunities for business growth, including upselling additional AE services to existing clients and expanding the client database.
