SEO & Digital Marketing Specialist

We're a growing online sewing pattern business selling downloadable patterns via Shopify and Etsy. Our audience is global, loyal and creative, but our search and shopping visibility haven't kept up with the quality of our products.

We're now looking for an experienced SEO and digital marketing specialist (5+ years+) to take ownership of our search performance, fix existing technical issues, and build a long-term growth engine across Google Search, Google Shopping, and Shopify.

This is not an entry-level role. You'll be the in-house expert, comfortable rolling up your sleeves on the technical details and also shaping the bigger marketing strategy.

What you'll do

1. Fix and strengthen our technical SEO foundation

• Audit and resolve indexing issues in Google Search Console (crawl errors, excluded pages, sitemap problems, coverage issues etc.).
• Clean up legacy URLs from our previous WordPress site and ensure clean 301 redirect mapping to current Shopify URLs.
• Remove redirect chains and broken redirects, and set correct canonical URLs.
• Optimise sitemaps and ensure all key collections, products and content pages are crawlable.

2. Optimise Google Merchant Center for digital products

• Configure Google Merchant Center correctly for downloadable / digital products (delivery type, shipping off, digital goods policies).
• Fix feed issues that cause disapprovals or limited visibility.
• Ensure required attributes and structured data are set correctly for non-physical products (e.g. identifier_exists = no, GTIN/MPN handling).
• Help us achieve reliable Shopping visibility globally.

3. Product feeds, schema & structured data

• Audit and improve our product feeds (via apps or custom feeds) for Google and other channels.
• Ensure product pages have complete schema markup (products, breadcrumbs, reviews where applicable).
• Work with our theme / templates to implement and maintain structured data.

4. On-page SEO & content optimisation

• Optimise product titles, descriptions, collections and on-site content for high-intent keywords (Google search & GEO opportunities).
• Identify and fix thin or duplicate content; create internal linking strategies to support priority patterns and bundles.
• Conduct ongoing keyword research around sewing patterns, sewing techniques, and related topics to inform new content and product positioning.
• Collaborate with us on content ideas (blog posts, tutorials, landing pages) that support both SEO and brand.

5. Shopify & marketplace optimisation

• Improve Shopify listing SEO (titles, tags, descriptions) and overall shop health.
• Develop a repeatable framework for launching and promoting new patterns on Shopify.
• Monitor marketplace performance and suggest ongoing improvements.

6. Analytics, reporting & experimentation

• Set up / refine tracking in GA4, Google Search Console and Merchant Center.
• Build simple, understandable monthly reports that show what's working (rankings, organic traffic, revenue from organic / Shopping).
• Propose and run A/B tests (e.g. title changes, image variations) to improve click-through rates and conversion rates.

7. Broader digital marketing support

• Support with email marketing flows (welcome sequences, abandoned cart, product launches with spoks).
• Provide input on paid campaigns (Google Ads / Shopping, Meta) so they complement organic efforts.
• Help refine landing pages from a CRO standpoint (copy, layout, calls-to-action).

What we're looking for

Must-have experience

• 5+ years hands-on SEO experience with measurable results, ideally in ecommerce.
• Strong technical SEO skills: site audits, crawl issues, redirects, canonicals, sitemaps, structured data.
• Proven track record with Google Search Console, Google Merchant Center, and product feeds (including feeds for digital / downloadable products).
• Experience optimising Shopify shops and listings for search and conversions.
• Comfortable reading and editing HTML/CSS and basic Liquid (or similar templating) to implement SEO and layout improvements.
• Strong skills with keyword research, on-page optimisation and content briefs.
• Confident with GA4 and data-driven decision making.
• Excellent written English and clear, structured communication.

Nice-to-have skills

• Basic understanding and written German language skills (sites are dual language German and English)
• Experience in crafts / sewing / DIY niches, or enthusiasm for learning the space.
• Understanding of conversion rate optimisation and UX best practices for ecommerce.
• Experience with email marketing platforms (e.g. Klaviyo/Spoks, Mautic, Mailchimp) and basic automation flows.
• Familiarity with PPC / Shopping Ads, even if you're not a dedicated media buyer.
• Basic design skills (e.g. cropping images, simple graphics) and comfort working with creatives.
