What is the job?

The Senior Accounting Associate is responsible for managing the accounts payable function, including processing purchase orders, vendor invoices, and payments, reconciling accounts payable and credit card transactions, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards. The role partners with purchasing teams and vendors to resolve inquiries, address exceptions, and recommend process improvements while supporting month-end close activities and audit readiness.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process and pay purchase orders, vendor invoices, and payments in compliance with company policies.
  • Reconcile accounts payable transactions, vendor statements, and credit card accounts.
  • Maintain accurate and updated vendor records and supporting documentation.
  • Monitor outstanding payables and ensure timely and accurate payments.
  • Support month-end close by preparing accruals, reconciliations, and reports, and assist in audits with required schedules and documents.
  • Handle daily accounts payable tasks while identifying opportunities for process improvements.

Qualifications:

  • Experienced in accounts payable and accounting, with at least two years of relevant work and a stable employment history.
  • Proficient in ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, Coupa) and advanced Microsoft Excel functions such as pivot tables and XLOOKUP.
  • Knowledgeable in GAAP, financial close processes, variance analysis, and audit preparation.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Effective communicator in English, capable of collaborating with internal teams, vendors, and non-accounting personnel.
  • Adaptable and self-motivated, with experience improving AP workflows, leveraging automation, and familiarity with nonprofit accounting compliance.
