A project site nurse, or occupational health nurse, provides essential medical care and health services to employees and visitors at a project location, such as a construction site or industrial plant. This role focuses on emergency response, injury prevention, and general health promotion to ensure a safe work environment.

Responsibilities:

Medical and emergency care

  • Provide immediate first aid and emergency care to workers in the event of an accident or illness on-site.
  • Assess injuries and medical conditions, and administer treatments for minor cuts, burns, and other health issues.
  • Refer employees to a physician or external medical facility for more extensive examinations and treatments when necessary.
  • Actively participate as a member of the project's Emergency Response Team.
  • Coordinate with external emergency services and hospital affiliates for serious incidents.

Occupational health and safety

  • Organize and administer a health service program that is in line with occupational health and safety regulations.
  • Monitor occupational health risks, such as fatigue, heat stress, and communicable diseases.
  • Assist the Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) team with accident investigations and prepare incident reports.
  • Participate in safety inspections and provide suggestions for improving the working environment.
  • Conduct health checks and monitoring for employees, including checking blood pressure.

Health education and wellness

  • Promote and implement health and wellness programs to educate workers on injury prevention, hygiene, and other health-related topics.
  • Conduct health orientations for new hires, visitors, and stakeholders.
  • Deliver regular "toolbox" health talks during general assembly meetings.
  • Organize and facilitate trainings on topics like Basic Life Support (BLS), CPR, and first aid.

Administration and reporting

  • Maintain accurate and confidential medical records, treatment logs, and health surveillance data for all employees.
  • Manage the inventory of medicines, medical supplies, and equipment in the site clinic to ensure availability and functionality.
  • Document and submit reports on all medical and first aid treatments, as well as work-related accidents.
  • Prepare and submit required medical reports to regulatory bodies.
  • Assist with other project-related administrative tasks, which can include manpower monitoring and timekeeping.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in nursing.
  • A valid and active Registered Nurse (RN) license from the relevant professional regulatory body.
  • Experience in an occupational health or industrial setting is often required, with construction industry experience being a significant advantage.
  • Certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS) and First Aid are mandatory.
  • Additional certifications, such as Basic Occupational Safety and Health (BOSH) or Occupational Health Nurse (OHNAP), are frequently required or preferred.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and record-keeping skills.
  • The ability to work independently, respond calmly to high-stress situations, and function well as part of a team.
