Safety Officer

Job Description

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Plans, directs and coordinates the operations of the section.

2. Participates in the development and communication of company policies and guidelines to direct reports for implementation.

3. Executes management policies; appoints, disciplines or dismisses subordinate employees (hires and fires); further, the incumbent's suggestions/ recommendations on the change of an employee's status is given notable weight.

4. Ensures compliance of all International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Certifications.

5. Plans, develops, review and implement accident and disaster prevention programs including safety awards and other employee engagement programs.

6. Formulates safety and other policies and procedures in coordination with CSHC and other business units. These also include safety implementation in critical activities (i.e. confined space, high voltage electrical works, underwater work, and the like) inside Maynilad facilities and worksite.

7. Maintains records and reports covering all aspects of the Safety programs including compliance on OSH related permits and clearance in their cluster.

8. Convenes the review committee to discuss, review and resolve any accidents and/or incident.

9. Ensures the workability and availability of all firefighting and emergency equipment of Maynilad.

10. Conducts safety training on emergency and/or rescue to employees and contractors as needed.

11. Conducts Annual Emergency Preparedness program and other risks management activities.

12. Manages the actual implementation of Emergency Preparedness Program and other risks management activities and mobilizes needed resources for emergency response, disaster relief and evacuation activities.

13. Collaborates with government and other agencies regarding the Company emergency preparedness programs.

14. Attends safety meetings, seminars and or training as required by BWC-DOLE and by other government and foreign regulatory bodies.

15. Performs other related tasks as may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM EDUCATION

• Graduate of any four (4) year course, preferably Civil/Sanitary/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering
• Minimum of 80 hours of advanced Occupational Safety and Health trainings given by Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) or other accredited training institutions

WORK EXPERIENCE

• With at least four (4) years of relevant work experience
• With at least two (2) years of supervisory work experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES

• Knowledgeable in Occupational Safety and Health Administration/International Organization for Standardization (OSHA/ISO) standards and requirements, occupational safety techniques, methods and procedures
• Knowledgeable in standard practices, processes, tools, equipment, and materials related to industrial plant operations Ability to prioritize, organize and coordinate work assignments to Safety Inspectors either directly or through other Officers/Supervisors Ability to interpret and apply standards, laws, rules, and regulations
• Proficient in MS Office
• High problem solving and analytical thinking skills
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Must be able to manage several projects and tasks simultaneously
• Excellent people management skills
• Excellent presentation skills
• Driving skills is an advantage
