Job Description – Purchaser (Food) (Grocery)

The Purchaser (Food) is responsible for sourcing, ordering, and maintaining the availability of grocery and food items to ensure store shelves are well-stocked and meet customer demand. This role involves evaluating suppliers, negotiating prices, monitoring inventory levels, and coordinating with store managers to forecast purchasing needs. The Purchaser ensures quality, cost-effectiveness, and timely delivery of products while adhering to company policies and food safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Source and purchase food and grocery items from approved suppliers.
  • Negotiate with vendors for the best pricing, quality, and delivery terms.
  • Monitor and maintain appropriate stock levels to avoid shortages or overstocking.
  • Work closely with store managers and other departments to identify purchasing needs.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety standards and company purchasing guidelines.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate purchasing records and reports.
  • Build and maintain strong supplier relationships.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience in purchasing, preferably in grocery or food retail.
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of food safety and quality standards is an advantage.
  • Detail-oriented, dependable, and able to work under pressure.
