Plumbing and Fire Protection Design Engineer

Job Summary:

The Plumbing and Fire Protection Design Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and coordination of plumbing and fire protection systems for various building and infrastructure projects. The role involves creating detailed plans, performing calculations, and ensuring compliance with local codes, safety standards, and project specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Design and Planning

  • Prepare detailed design drawings, layouts, and schematics for plumbing, sanitary, and fire protection systems.
  • Develop system sizing, pressure calculations, and equipment selection.
  • Design systems including water supply, drainage, venting, stormwater, and fire suppression.
  • Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, electrical engineers, and other disciplines to ensure integrated design solutions.

2. Technical and Compliance

  • Ensure designs comply with local building codes, NFPA standards, and other applicable regulations.
  • Prepare technical specifications, bill of quantities (BOQ), and material submittals.
  • Review and approve shop drawings and technical data from contractors and suppliers.
  • Conduct hydraulic and system performance calculations.

3. Project Coordination

  • Collaborate with project managers, consultants, and contractors to ensure timely project completion.
  • Attend coordination and design review meetings.
  • Provide technical support during installation, testing, and commissioning phases.

4. Quality and Safety

  • Ensure designs prioritize sustainability, energy efficiency, and safety.
  • Implement best practices in fire protection engineering, including fire pump, sprinkler, and alarm system designs.
  • Conduct site inspections to verify that installations conform to approved plans.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Licensed Mechanical Engineer (preferred or required, depending on company policy).
  • Minimum of 3–5 years relevant experience in plumbing and fire protection design.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit MEP, and Hydraulic Calculation Software (e.g., Elite Fire, HASS, or equivalent).
  • Strong knowledge of NFPA, ASPE, and Philippine Plumbing Code standards.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and coordination skills.
