Job Purpose:
A Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for managing and maintaining an organization's databases to ensure optimal performance, security, and availability. The DBA ensures data integrity, performs backups, optimizes queries, and troubleshoots issues to support business operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Database Management: Install, configure, and maintain database systems (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server).
- Performance Optimization: Monitor database performance, tune queries, and optimize indexing strategies.
- Security & Compliance: Implement security measures, control access, and ensure compliance with data protection regulations.
- Backup & Recovery: Develop and manage database backup strategies to prevent data loss.
- Troubleshooting & Maintenance: Identify and resolve database issues, minimize downtime, and improve reliability.
- Data Integrity & Consistency: Ensure database accuracy through data validation and integrity checks.
- Automation & Scripting: Use scripts and automation tools for database management and deployment.
- Collaboration & Support: Work with developers, analysts, and IT teams to ensure smooth data flow and system integration.
Experience and Qualifications Required: (includes certifications, license required, education, managerial and HR skills)
Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Experience: 2+ years of experience in database administration (entry-level roles may require certifications).
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in SQL and database query optimization.
- Experience with database management systems (DBMS) such as Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or SQL Server.
- Knowledge of database security and compliance standards.
- Familiarity with cloud databases (AWS RDS, Azure SQL, Google Cloud SQL) is a plus.
- Scripting experience (e.g., Python, PowerShell, Bash) is a bonus.

· Performance Optimization: Query tuning, indexing, and system performance improvements.
· Security & Compliance: Data protection, access control, and regulatory compliance.

· Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills to troubleshoot and optimize databases.
· Attention to Detail: Ensuring data accuracy, integrity, and security.
· Collaboration & Communication: Working with developers, analysts, and IT teams.
· Adaptability & Learning: Staying updated on emerging database technologies and trends.
Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term
