Estimator – Electrical Works (Australian Construction Business)

We are looking for a detail-oriented and experienced Estimator to join our client's construction team, focusing on high-voltage and low-voltage distribution projects. In this role, you'll play a key part in preparing accurate estimates and costings to support successful tendering and project execution. If you have a solid background in electrical estimating, strong analytical skills, and enjoy working in a collaborative environment, we'd love to hear from you.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Has proven experience estimating electrical distribution works (utility, industrial, or infrastructure projects)
  • Possesses a strong understanding of electrical standards, materials, and installation practices
  • Can communicate effectively and professionally, both written and verbal
  • Is self-motivated, highly organized, and committed to accuracy
  • Comfortable collaborating across teams and coordinating with suppliers

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret project specifications, drawings, and scope documents for HV/LV works
  • Develop detailed cost estimates for labour, materials, subcontractors, equipment, and overheads
  • Perform quantity take-offs using estimating software

    Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to gather quotes and technical details
  • Build and maintain estimating templates and tools
  • Identify project risks and opportunities during estimation
  • Collaborate with construction and project teams during handover
  • Track project performance vs. estimates to improve accuracy
  • Support tender submissions and attend client meetings as needed

Tools & Skills:

  • Familiarity with Bluebeam Revu, PlanSwift, Cubit, SimPRO, or similar software
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and technical documents
  • Strong numeracy, time management, and communication skills

Desirable Experience:

  • Prior work with Australian utilities like Powercor, AusNet, Jemena, or United Energy
  • Knowledge of Australian electrical standards and distributor-specific specifications
  • Background in project engineering, construction, or field operations
  • Diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (optional)
