The Need
For over 25 years, IJM has pioneered the work to protect vulnerable people from violence. 9 out of 9 times in the last decade, IJM's Justice System Strengthening Projects have reduced slavery and violence between 50% and 85% for very large populations of people in poverty. As we grow to expand our impact to protect 500 million people from violence, we are seeking a Regional Junior Lawyer who will support the Regional General Counsel, Asia Pacific, in ensuring legal compliance, risk management, and operational excellence across IJM's Asia Pacific operations.

This role provides legal research, document drafting, and administrative support on a wide range of matters, including governance administration, procurement legal review, contracts, compliance, and policy implementation. The Junior Lawyer will work closely with the Regional General Counsel and other stakeholders to help ensure the region's legal entities remain in good standing and that IJM's global standards and policies are applied consistently.

This position can be based in the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, or Indonesia and reports to the Regional General Counsel, Asia Pacific and is only available for candidates with the right to work in the above-mentioned countries.
Responsibilities
Contract and Documentation Drafting and Review

• Draft, review, and edit a variety of legal documents, including procurement contracts, vendor agreements, memoranda, and correspondence, ensuring compliance with IJM's standards and relevant laws.
• Support the procurement process by reviewing and advising on procurement-related legal documents to mitigate risk and ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations.

Legal Research and Analysis

• Conduct legal research and analysis on regional and international laws, regulations, and case matters relevant to IJM's operations, as directed by the Regional General Counsel.
• Monitor legal and regulatory developments relevant to the region and provide timely updates to the legal team.

Compliance and Risk Management Support

• Assist in monitoring and supporting compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies, including safeguarding, anti-discrimination, and whistleblower policies.
• Support the organization's risk management and compliance initiatives, including policy review and training coordination.

Legal Operations and Administration

• Prepare, organize, and maintain legal files, databases, and knowledge management systems for ongoing matters and legal precedents.
• Provide administrative and operational support to the legal department, including scheduling, document filing, and tracking deadlines.
• Support the preparation of reports, presentations, and updates for regional leadership, including progress on compliance, governance, risk management, and legal entity standing.

Stakeholder and Counsel Liaison

• Liaise with external counsel and regulatory authorities under the direction of the General Counsel, including managing communications and tracking deliverables.
• Assist in due diligence processes for transactions, partnerships, and new country expansion initiatives.

Supervisory

• This role does not have direct supervisory responsibilities but may provide guidance to interns or support staff as assigned.

Authority

• Acts within delegated authority from the Regional General Counsel on legal research, document preparation, and contract review.
• No independent signatory or policy approval authority.

Education And Experience

• Law degree (LLB, JD, or equivalent) from an accredited institution preferred
• Admitted to practice law (or eligibility to obtain admission) in at least one relevant jurisdiction in the region preferred
• 0–2 years of post-qualification legal experience (including internships or clerkships).
• Experience or coursework in procurement, contracts, or compliance preferred.
• Strong legal research, analytical, and drafting skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities in English; additional regional language(s) an advantage.
