Assistant IT Manager

Position Overview:
The Assistant IT Manager will play a dual role as both a technical expert and a managerial leader. This role will be responsible for supporting the IT Manager in overseeing day-to-day IT operations, ensuring network and system reliability, implementing security best practices, and leading projects that align with organizational growth and compliance requirements. The ideal candidate is hands-on with enterprise-grade infrastructure while also capable of managing people, processes, and IT strategy.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic & Managerial Leadership
- Lead IT projects such as network upgrades, cloud migrations, and o-ice
expansions. - Assist in IT strategy, budgeting, vendor management, and procurement.
- Oversee SLA compliance, service desk operations, and IT performance metrics.
- Ensure compliance with SOC 2, NIST , ISO 27001 security frameworks.
- Develop and enforce IT policies, DR plans, and cybersecurity awareness programs.
- Act as an escalation point for critical IT issues and communicate with executives.
- Mentor and coach IT staff, delegating tasks and ensuring career development.
Technical Responsibilities
- Network & Security Management
- Configure, manage, and troubleshoot Fortinet Firewalls and Unifi Devices
(FGT, FGW, FortiSwitch, FortiAP, Unifi Devices AP). - Design and maintain redundant network architecture to ensure high
availability and minimal downtime. - Implement routing protocols and manage VLANs, inter-VLAN routing, and
segmentation. - Configure and maintain VPN solutions: SSL-VPN, IPsec, and site-to-site
tunnels. - Ensure proper load balancing, failover, and SLA monitoring in SD-WAN environments.
- Infrastructure & Systems Administration
- Manage on-premise servers (Windows Server, Linux, Active Directory, DHCP,
DNS, Group Policy). - Oversee virtualization platforms (Hyper-V/).
- Maintain cloud infrastructure, including AWS (EC2, VPC and Light Sail) and
hybrid integrations. - Administer and optimize storage systems (NAS/SAN) and implement backup
and disaster recovery strategies. - Security & Compliance
- Implement and enforce security best practices (patching, endpoint security,
DLP, SIEM). - Ensure compliance with SOC 2, NIST, ISO 27001, and other relevant
frameworks. - Manage access control, identity management, and MFA enforcement.
- Conduct periodic security audits, vulnerability assessments, and penetration test remediation.
- IT Service Management
- Apply ITIL/ITSM best practices in incident, change, and problem
management. - Oversee ticketing system workflows and improve SLA adherence.
- Support implementation and improvement of CMDB and IT asset lifecycle
management.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.
- 3–5 years of IT experience in networking, systems, and security.
- Hands-on experience with Fortinet firewalls, routing/switching, and VPNs.
- Familiarity with cloud (AWS) and on-prem server environments.
- Knowledge of ITIL/ITSM frameworks and ticketing systems.
