Role summary

The COBOL/CICS application engineer sustains and enhances mission-critical cruise-booking engine hosted on IBM z/OS. The incumbent diagnoses production incidents, delivers functional changes, and exposes legacy transactions through contemporary APIs while safeguarding sub-second response times and four-nines availability.Key responsibilities

Analyse, design, code, and unit-test COBOL programs executed under CICS Transaction Server. Maintain COMMAREA/CHANNEL data structures, VSAM files, and DB2 schemas. Create and modify JCL for nightly batch reconciliation, fare refresh, and settlement jobs.

Participate in code promotion using Endevor (or equivalent) and adhere to DevOps pipelines and change-control windows. Optimise transaction CPU/MSU consumption via compiler options, LE settings, and SQL tuning. Collaborate with API-integration teams to wrap legacy functions using z/OS Connect EE or CICS Web Services.

Provide Level-3 incident support and contribute to root-cause analysis and permanent fixes. Produce technical artefacts—program specifications, data-flow diagrams, and release notes—to preserve institutional knowledge. Essential qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent experience.5 + years of COBOL development on IBM z/OS, with at least 3 years in a CICS online environment. Proficiency in VSAM, DB2 for z/OS, JCL, TSO/ISPF, and utilities (IDCAMS, IEBGENER, DFSORT). Experience using debuggers such as IBM Debug Tool or Abend-Aid.

Demonstrable exposure to service enablement technologies (CICS TS 5 +, z/OS Connect EE, MQ). Clear written and spoken English; able to interface with Miami-based business analysts and architects. Desirable attributes

Working knowledge of REST/JSON, Swagger/OpenAPI, and CI/CD tooling (Jenkins, Git, SonarQube).Familiarity with cruise, airline, or travel-industry reservation logic.Certifications: IBM Certified Developer – CICS Transaction Server or similar.
