Occupational Health Nurse (OHN)

Company Physician / HR Manager / Safety & Health Officer

Job Summary:

The Occupational Health Nurse (OHN) is responsible for the administration and delivery of occupational health services to employees in compliance with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Occupational Safety and Health Standards, Republic Act OSH Law), and company policies. The OHN ensures the physical, mental, and social well-being of employees by providing immediate medical care, conducting preventive health programs, monitoring workplace hazards, and implementing wellness initiatives. The role also involves maintaining medical records, coordinating with government agencies, and serving as a vital link between management and employees in promoting a safe and healthy workplace.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Health Care Services

· Administer first aid treatment and emergency care to employees during accidents, injuries, or sudden illnesses.

· Conduct triage, initial assessment, and referral to higher medical care when necessary.

· Monitor the condition of injured or ill employees until transferred or stabilized.

· Perform health assessments, blood pressure monitoring, and other nursing procedures as needed.

· Assist in the implementation of return-to-work and fitness-for-duty evaluations.

  1. Occupational Health Programs

· Organize and oversee the conduct of Annual Physical Examinations (APE) for all employees.

· Conduct health surveillance programs for employees exposed to workplace hazards (noise, dust, chemicals, etc.).

· Implement immunization and preventive health campaigns (e.g., flu vaccines, blood donation drives, TB screening).

· Develop and deliver health promotion and wellness programs (mental health awareness, ergonomics, lifestyle diseases prevention).

· Provide counseling and health education on personal hygiene, healthy habits, and stress management.

  1. Safety and Compliance

· Collaborate with the Safety Officer in hazard identification, risk assessment, and accident prevention.

· Participate in safety audits, inspections, and drills (fire, earthquake, emergency response).

· Prepare and submit mandatory DOLE reports such as the Work Accident/Illness Report (WAIR).

· Ensure compliance with RA 11058 and DOLE Department Orders on occupational health and safety.

· Support the implementation of a Drug-Free Workplace Program in compliance with DOLE/DOH/DOJ guidelines.

  1. Clinic and Administrative Functions

· Supervise the daily operations of the company clinic, ensuring it is adequately equipped and manned.

· Maintain and update individual Employee Medical Records (EMR) and ensure confidentiality in accordance with the Data Privacy Act of 2012.

· Safeguard and monitor the use of medicines, first aid kits, and medical equipment.

· Maintain an inventory of supplies and initiate requests for replenishment.

· Document medical incidents, treatments, and employee consultations accurately.

  1. Coordination and Training

· Work closely with the company physician, HR, and safety officers in managing employee health and welfare.

· Provide orientation to new employees regarding occupational health and safety policies.

· Conduct trainings and drills in basic first aid, CPR, and emergency response.

· Act as a liaison with government agencies (DOLE, DOH, LGU health offices) during inspections, audits, and health-related initiatives.

· Serve as a health adviser and counselor to employees and management.

Qualifications:

· Registered Nurse (RN) with valid PRC license.

· Preferably with Basic Occupational Safety and Health (BOSH) Training for Nurses (as prescribed by DOLE).

· At least 1–2 years of clinical or occupational health experience.

· Knowledge of DOLE OSH Standards, emergency procedures, and first aid.

· Proficient in medical documentation and record-keeping.

· Good communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

· Ability to handle confidential medical information with integrity.

Working Conditions:

· Primarily based in the company clinic or onsite workplace.

· May be required to render extended hours in case of emergencies or company activities.

· May need to respond to workplace accidents or incidents anytime.

· Works closely with HR, Safety, and top management to ensure compliance and employee welfare.
