Employee's Day to Day Task:

Primary Work:

  • Primary Work: Review and interpret civil construction plans including grading, paving, drainage, site and layout sheets to understand contours, spot elevations, curb types, finished floor grades, slopes, and grading limits before modelling.
  • Identify any discrepancies or missing data that could affect surface accuracy.
  • Review and interpret the geotechnical or soils report for each project to understand stripping depths, unsuitable material zones, and any strata layers that may affect modelling.
  • Incorporate these details into the Gradework model where applicable and note any uncertain or conflicting information for estimator review.
  • Import and clean plan data (PDF, DXF, DWG, or TIN) into Agtek's Gradework program, ensuring proper scaling and coordinate alignment.
  • Agtek software is available as a free download and an internet key will be provided that should be updated as required.
  • Download plans, CAD files, and instructions from a shared cloud folder and upload the completed Agtek file along with requests for additional information and a list of assumptions.
  • Build existing and proposed surfaces using contours, spot elevations, pads, slopes, and grading limits.
  • Define and manage perimeters, report regions, sectional regions, and stripping or discing limits as needed.
  • Strata layers may occasionally be used for understanding existing soil categories.
  • Generate model checks including cross-sections, shaded cut and fill views, and comparison grids to confirm accuracy and verify surface tie-ins.
  • Prepare screenshots or simple reports for estimator review, ensuring all models are labelled, organized by phase or region, and saved using a consistent naming convention that includes date and revision description.
  • Update models as addenda or revised plan sets are issued while maintaining version control and a record of changes.
  • Organize and prioritize modelling tasks according to project milestones and strict estimating deadlines to ensure timely delivery of all assignments.

Coordination:

  • Provide clear and concise messages to the estimator for clarification when needed.
  • Point out any grading assumptions, proposed versus existing tie-ins, or ambiguous information that requires review before final submission.
  • Request additional information when plan data is missing, conflicting, or unclear.
  • Submit a list of assumptions or questions before or with each model upload and ensure communication is professional, accurate, and easy to follow.

Skills Required:

Technical Skills:

  • Strong command of Agtek Gradework including importing and scaling vector PDFs or CAD files and interpreting civil construction plans to build accurate existing and proposed surfaces.
  • Ability to read and understand different plan sets and geotechnical or soils reports and apply relevant information such as stripping depth, unsuitable zones, or strata transitions within the model setup.
  • Ability to create and manage perimeters and report regions for isolated calculations such as building pads, roads, and ponds. Experience with sectional regions for targeted cross-sections or pavement/building hold-down checks.
  • Competence in setting up stripping or discing layers to account for topsoil removal and replacement.
  • Occasional use of strata layers for unsuitable or marginal soil zones.
  • Understanding of surface tie-ins and the ability to identify and correct grading conflicts.
  • Proficiency in producing clean and clearly labelled Agtek viewer deliverables for internal review.
  • Comparable experience with other 3D earthwork or civil modelling software such as Trimble Business Center, Carlson Take-off, Autodesk Civil 3D, or InSite Elevation Pro will also be considered if the candidate demonstrates a solid understanding of surface modelling principles, perimeters, report regions, and earthwork volume workflows.

  • High attention to detail and consistency in file organization.
  • Clear written communication when listing assumptions, clarifications, and change logs.
  • Ability to work independently across time zones with reliable turnaround and minimal oversight.
  • Professional attitude and accountability when working on assigned models and communicating with the estimating team.
