Job Summary

The Head of Data & Insights leads the development of ALH's organization-wide data and analytics capability starting with Commercial and Marketing, and progressively expanding to Operations, Finance, and Development. The role is responsible for shaping the company's data strategy, ensuring that insights, analytics, and data visualization become integral to decision-making at every level of the business.

This leader will drive the design and use of reporting frameworks, business intelligence tools, and analytical models to translate complex data into actionable insights that improve revenue performance, operational efficiency, guest satisfaction, and future business growth. While the focus lies in analytics, insights, and visualization, the role also provides strategic input on data infrastructure and architecture, working closely with IT and external partners to ensure data systems are scalable, integrated, and reliable.

The Head of Data & Insights will build and mentor a growing team—beginning with data analysts and, over time, expanding to include data scientists and engineers—while fostering a culture of data literacy, collaboration, and curiosity across ALH.

Key Responsibilities

1. Data Strategy & Governance

  • Develop and implement an enterprise-wide data and insights strategy to enable data-informed decisions across all business units.
  • Establish standards and governance processes that ensure data accuracy, consistency, and security.
  • Collaborate with IT, Systems, and third-party partners to align on infrastructure, integrations, and data architecture improvements.
  • Provide strategic recommendations on optimizing the use of ALH's existing platforms (Opera Cloud, AWS/Google Cloud, Tableau) and future tools.

2. Insights & Analytics

  • Lead the creation of analytics frameworks and methodologies that uncover business performance drivers across commercial, operational, marketing, and financial areas.
  • Deliver clear, actionable insights that guide pricing, marketing, revenue management, and business development decisions.
  • Conduct analytical assessments to inform project development, feasibility, and expansion opportunities.
  • Define, measure, and evolve key performance metrics that align with strategic objectives.
  • Partner with cross-functional leaders to ensure data insights directly shape plans and execution.

3. Reporting & Visualization

  • Oversee the design, automation, and continuous enhancement of dashboards and reports in Tableau and related BI tools.
  • Ensure reporting outputs are intuitive, visually clear, and actionable for both leadership and property-level teams.
  • Continuously refine KPI frameworks to keep them aligned with evolving business priorities and growth plans.

4. Collaboration, Team Building & Leadership

  • Build, coach, and expand the Data & Insights team—initially composed of analysts and later extending to data scientists and engineers.
  • Act as the bridge between business and technical stakeholders, translating business needs into technical solutions.
  • Lead conversations with infrastructure and engineering partners to align technical capabilities with analytical goals.
  • Foster collaboration across Commercial, Marketing, Operations, and Development teams to maximize data impact.

5. Data Culture & Capability Building

  • Champion data literacy and democratization across the organization.
  • Design and lead internal learning programs to help teams interpret and apply insights confidently.
  • Drive the shift from instinct-based to data-informed decision-making through education, visibility, and success stories.

6. Performance Monitoring & Continuous Improvement

  • Measure adoption and engagement of analytics tools and dashboards across the organization.
  • Identify gaps and opportunities in data accessibility, process efficiency, and visualization quality.
  • Stay abreast of emerging analytics tools and practices to continuously improve ALH's data maturity.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Business Analytics, Computer Science, or related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Minimum 8 years of progressive experience in analytics, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Strong technical expertise in data analytics, visualization, and reporting (e.g., Tableau, SQL, Python/R).
  • Familiarity with data infrastructure, cloud platforms (AWS/Google Cloud), and system integration concepts.
  • Proven success in leveraging data insights to inform strategic decisions, drive growth, and improve performance.
  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills—able to translate analytical findings into business action.
  • Experience in hospitality, multi-property operations, or real estate development preferred.
  • Strategic thinker with a collaborative mindset and passion for developing people and processes.
