Job Summary:

We are looking for a dynamic and experienced R&D Manager to lead our product development efforts in the cosmetics and personal care sector. This role will manage the formulation, innovation, and technical development of beauty products suited to both local and regional (ASEAN) markets. The ideal candidate should have strong experience in cosmetic science, local regulatory knowledge, and a passion for innovation tailored to Filipino and Southeast Asian consumers.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Product Development & Innovation

  • Lead the formulation and development of new cosmetic and personal care products (e.g., skincare, haircare, body care, color cosmetics).
  • Modify or enhance existing formulations to improve performance, cost-efficiency, or compliance.
  • Ensure products are suitable for the Philippine climate and skin types/preferences of local consumers.
  • Translate marketing briefs and consumer insights into innovative and effective products.

2. Regulatory Compliance & Documentation

  • Ensure all products meet FDA Philippines (Food and Drug Administration).
  • Oversee preparation of Product Information Files (PIFs), Safety Assessments, and technical documentation.
  • Maintain accurate records of formulations, stability studies, and clinical testing reports.

3. Team Leadership & Project Management

  • Supervise R&D chemists, technicians, and lab assistants.
  • Develop timelines for R&D activities and manage multiple concurrent projects.
  • Coordinate with Marketing, QA, Regulatory, Procurement, and Production for smooth product launches.

4. Ingredient & Supplier Management

  • Source and evaluate raw materials, staying updated on sustainable, natural, or trend-driven ingredients.
  • Maintain strong relationships with local and international suppliers and vendors.
  • Monitor ingredient costs and suggest cost-saving reformulations without compromising quality.

5. Quality, Safety & Testing

  • Ensure all developed products undergo proper stability, microbiological, and safety testing.
  • Interpret test results and adjust formulations as needed.
  • Collaborate with QA and Production teams to troubleshoot formulation issues during scale-up.

6. Trend Monitoring & Consumer Insights

  • Stay updated on global and regional beauty trends, consumer behavior, and ingredient innovations.
  • Recommend product concepts that meet emerging beauty trends in the Philippine and ASEAN markets.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemistry, Pharmacy, Chemical Engineering, or Cosmetic Science.
  • Licensed Chemist or Pharmacist is a plus.
  • Certifications in Cosmetic Product Safety or Regulatory Affairs are advantageous.

Experience:

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in cosmetic product development.
  • At least 2 years in a leadership or managerial role within an R&D or formulation lab.
  • Familiarity with the Philippine FDA and ASEAN Cosmetics Directive requirements.

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of raw materials, formulation techniques, and product stability.
  • Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and ISO standards.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet strict deadlines.
