ACCOUNTING ASSISTANT
Job Summary
The Accounting Assistant is responsible for handling general ledger coding, transaction processing, and providing support across various bookkeeping and reporting functions.
The role may also include payroll and superannuation reconciliation, as well as other ad hoc accounting tasks. A strong understanding of Australian accounting standards, particularly GST and BAS, is essential.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform bank reconciliations and maintain the general ledger
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Conduct balance sheet reconciliations
- Process transactions up to the trial balance stage
- Prepare and submit Business Activity Statements (BAS)
- Reconcile investment data and assist with related reporting
- Assist in payroll and superannuation reconciliation
- Support the preparation of SMSF and income tax return (ITR) reports as needed
- Perform other bookkeeping and compliance-related tasks as required
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accountancy, Finance, or a related field
- Minimum of 2 years' bookkeeping experience with a sound understanding of Australian GST and BAS requirements
- Experience with ITR and SMSF reports and systems is highly preferred
- Familiarity with QuickBooks Online, Xero, MYOB, Reckon Accounts Hosted, and BGL360 is preferred and proficiency skills in Microsoft Excel and Word
- Excellent communication skills
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy
