Job Description

As a Payroll Officer, you'll ensure accurate and timely payroll for healthcare workers across Australia. From award interpretation to managing timesheets and addressing discrepancies, your work keeps operations running smoothly and supports a vital industry.

The Qualifications We Seek

Experience

  • Possess at least 4 years of payroll experience, including high-volume payroll for 300+ employees
  • Have prior experience in the recruitment or labour hire industry (preferred but not required)
  • Understand and apply Award interpretation accurately
  • Meet statutory payroll requirements effectively

Technical Skills

  • Demonstrate advanced numeracy, financial, and analytical skills
  • Maintain accurate documentation and strong attention to detail
  • Manage processes, including execution, delivery, and review for improvement
  • Use Microsoft Office Suite and payroll software (Salesforce, Sage, Access Micropay) proficiently

Business Skills

  • Display commercial acumen with a strong understanding of business priorities, risks, and opportunities
  • Solve problems effectively to achieve positive business outcomes
  • Manage tasks, projects, issues, and stakeholders efficiently
  • Stay organized and responsive while handling competing priorities

Communication Skills

  • Communicate work progress and issues affecting deadlines clearly
  • Engage and influence stakeholders across the business
  • Deliver verbal and written communication that is clear, concise, and respectful

Your Daily Tasks

  • Respond to queries from temporary or contract workers and clients related to payments or timesheet invoices; resolve issues in a timely and professional manner
  • Ensure accuracy of temporary or contract worker setup, including pull-throughs, placement change validations, and pre-payroll checks; ensure payroll readiness and correct handling of super withholding
  • Interpret applicable awards and agreements
  • Enter manual timesheet information accurately
  • Manage weekly temporary timesheet approval process and ensure timely approvals for payroll deadlines
  • Handle employee deductions as required
  • Analyze and interpret temporary or contract timesheets; address anomalies and irregularities
  • Prepare confirmation of employment and statement of service letters
  • Maintain pay records, employee records, leaver records, and related documentation
  • Assist the Finance team with ad hoc tasks
  • Maintain accurate records across all systems
  • Prepare meeting materials, participate in discussions, and complete agreed action items
