PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION

Responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of a fleet of vehicles, including managing vehicle maintenance, repairs, servicing schedules, dispatching drivers, and ensuring the efficient utilization of all vehicles within a company or organization, effectively acting as the supervisor of the motorpool department; key duties include maintaining vehicle records, coordinating repairs, implementing preventative maintenance plans, and monitoring fuel usage.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Vehicle Management:

  • Maintain an accurate inventory of all vehicles and equipment within the motorpool
  • Assign vehicles to drivers based on needs and availability
  • Track vehicle mileage, fuel consumption, and maintenance history

Maintenance Oversight:

  • Develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules for all vehicles
  • Oversee vehicle repairs and ensure timely completion by coordinating with mechanics
  • Review repair estimates and authorize necessary repairs

Operational Management:

  • Monitor and manage driver behavior and compliance with company policies
  • Investigate and resolve vehicle accidents or incidents
  • Coordinate with vendors for vehicle servicing and parts procurement

Budgeting and Reporting:

  • Track motorpool expenses related to fuel, maintenance, and repairs
  • Prepare reports on vehicle usage, maintenance costs. and fleet performance
  • Identify areas for cost optimization within the motorpool

Staff Supervision:

  • Manage and supervise motorpool staff, including mechanics, dispatchers, and administrative personnel
  • Train staff on proper vehicle operation, maintenance procedures, and safety protocols

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

  • Strong understanding of vehicle mechanics and maintenance procedures
  • Proven experience managing a fleet of vehicles in a similar environment
  • Ability to effectively manage and motivate a team
  • Data analysis skills to identify trends and make informed decisions regarding fleet management
  • Proficiency in record keeping, reporting, and documentation
  • Must have adequate knowledge of modern mechanical or diagnostics tools and equipment
  • Demonstrates disciplined and organized work habits

REQUIREMENT

  • Must be a graduate of Mechanical Engineering or equivalent. License is an advantage
  • Must have at least 3 years of experience in a respectable automotive shop or company
  • Must possess a professional driver's license
