About the Role

Treston Health Club is seeking a compassionate, skilled, and forward-thinking Adaptive Fitness Coach to join our inclusive wellness team. This role is ideal for a coach who is passionate about supporting both neurotypical and neurodivergent individuals on their fitness journeys through inclusive practice and customized training programs

You'll help us build a space where everybody and every mind is respected, supported, and empowered to thrive.

Key Responsibilities

1. Client Assessment and Program Design
  • Conduct comprehensive physical and functional assessments.
  • Identify individual goals, limitations, and potential.
  • Develop adaptive fitness plans tailored to each client's needs.
2. Inclusive Training Delivery
  • Safely deliver one-on-one or group training sessions.
  • Adapt exercises to suit mobility, cognitive, or sensory impairments.
  • Use adaptive equipment or modifications effectively.
3. Progress Monitoring and Evaluation
  • Track client progress through regular assessments.
  • Adjust programs based on performance, feedback, and physical changes.
  • Document improvements and challenges for continued development.
4. Safety and Risk Management
  • Ensure safe environments for adaptive exercise.
  • Recognize and respond to signs of physical distress or injury.
  • Maintain first aid and CPR certifications; follow emergency protocols.
5. Client Education and Empowerment
  • Educate clients on fitness, nutrition, and wellness practices.
  • Foster independence and self-confidence.
  • Promote healthy lifestyle habits beyond the gym.
6. Collaboration and Communication
  • Work with healthcare professionals (PTs, OTs, doctors) as needed.
  • Maintain clear communication with clients, caregivers, and team members.
  • Report progress and challenges effectively.
7. Professional Development
  • Stay current with best practices in adaptive fitness.
  • Attend workshops, certifications, and relevant courses.
  • Promote awareness and advocacy for inclusive fitness practices.
8. Community Engagement and Advocacy
  • Build an inclusive fitness culture within the community.
  • Promote awareness about adaptive fitness programs.
  • Network with disability support groups, rehab centers, or veteran services.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • BrightSide Academy (BSA) classes support: Assist coaches in creating and delivering fun-to-fit classes, offering guidance and encouragement during exercises for students with special needs.
  • Gym Assistance: Supervise gym equipment use, educate members on proper form, and ensure safety protocols are followed.
  • Personal Training: Evaluate a client's fitness levels, medical history, and goals to create personalized workout plans.
  • Equipment and Maintenance: Keep the gym tidy and organized, reporting equipment issues to management.

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Reception Duties: Handle member inquiries, class schedules, and front desk duties when the receptionist is off duty, providing excellent customer service.
  • Event Support: Help organize and support club events, challenges, and fitness workshops.

Qualifications

  • Registered Physiotherapist, BS Kinesiology or Sports Science graduate,  Certified Fitness Trainer, Strength & Conditioning Specialist, or equivalent
  • Experience or training in adaptive fitness, special needs, or neurodiversity inclusion preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Patience, creativity, and emotional intelligence
