Position Title:
ALM and FX Portfolio Manager

About the Role

The ALM and FX Portfolio Manager is responsible in managing the Company's Balance sheet (Asset-Liability) and Foreign Exchange Portfolio. The ALM/FX PM works directly with Head of Investments in managing the Overall and per currency Asset-Liability Management as well as manage the FX Position/s of the Company. He/She will be focused on identifying the best opportunities and strategies in positioning against the company's reserves, and efficient utilization of funds (aligned with the Company's investment targets). He/She will be coordinating closely with the Fixed Income Portfolio Manager and the Investment Associate on a day-to-day basis. The Portfolio Manager must stay updated with developments in the industry.

Responsibilities

Management of Company's Balance sheet (Asset-Liability) and Foreign Exchange Portfolio

  • Stays abreast with current events and news that may affect the company's portfolio in terms of liquidity, profitability, performance, and exposures.
  • Provides outlook to the team and superiors and carries out strategies agreed with the Head of Investments.
  • Manages the company's Assets against its Reserves
  • Directly manages A-L position of the foreign currency portfolio.
  • Manages A-L position of the PHP portfolio in coordination with FI Portfolio Manager.
  • Manages the Company's foreign exchange position/s.
  • Monitors and analyzes PnL, Mark-to-Market, duration, and other relevant attributes of the portfolio.
  • Provides monthly analyses of PnL variances vs. forecast.
  • Ensures on a daily basis that no major (internal and regulatory) limits are breached.
  • Maintains good relationships with counterparties.
  • Works closely with Investment Associate in identifying investment opportunities/new investment products that may augment their portfolio's returns.

Coordinates with FI Portfolio Manager/s (In-house and External) regarding ALM

  • Sends common-size reserve maturity profile to competitive fixed income (in-house and external) fund managers.
  • Determines the proper distribution of large funding requirements and contributions to different segments of the investment portfolio, if any
  • Communicates them to In-house fixed income PM and external fund managers.
  • Ensures External Fund Managers match closely short term reserves (less than 1Y) with short-terms Assets.

Efficient Utilization of Funds

  • Reviews liquidity position and invests/divests or rebalances the fixed income portfolio as needed.
  • Creates and funds liquidity forecasts.
  • Key decision maker in terms of sources of funds/uses of funds depending on excess/funding requests from Treasury.
  • Uses available FX spot and derivative products available to the Company in managing FX position and funding requirements if any.

Transaction limits

  • Ensures that deals are executed within the approved internal and regulatory guidelines, and all applicable approvals (from management, the Board of Directors, or regulators) are obtained for exceptions.

Submission of reports

Individual reports:

  • Weekly and monthly market updates.
  • Monthly ALM and FX Report.
  • Updated In-house Investment and FX Portfolio worksheets - Daily.

Team Reports:

  • Monthly SL and board supplementary reports.
  • Consolidated Investment Portfolio - Monthly.
  • Investment Committee Report - Quarterly.
  • Exposure report - Monthly.
  • Income Report - Monthly.

External Reports:

  • Insurance Commission – transactions that may need special approvals.

Communication/ Coordination with Team members

  • Delegates ALM and FX related administrative functions to Investment Associate and provides mentoring to enrich Investment Associate job function.
  • Maintains open communication with Investment Associate and FI Portfolio Manager for smooth coordination and transaction.
  • Reviews the FX and ALM related work done by the Investment Associate prior to submission to Head of Investments including product review and recommendation.

Client/Vendor Relations

Develops good rapport with counterparty dealers and brokers (attending Fund Manager AP & other investments related functions).
