Job Summary
The
Head of Credit
is responsible for overseeing the bank's overall credit strategy, policies, and operations. The role ensures that credit risk is effectively managed, credit portfolio quality is maintained, and lending activities align with regulatory requirements and the bank's strategic goals. The position leads the Credit Group and collaborates closely with business units, risk management, and compliance to support safe and profitable lending growth.
Key Responsibilities
1. Credit Strategy and Policy
- Develop, implement, and update credit policies, procedures, and guidelines aligned with BSP regulations and internal risk appetite.
- Define credit approval frameworks, delegation of authority, and portfolio risk limits.
- Recommend credit products and programs to support business expansion while maintaining prudent risk management.
2. Credit Evaluation and Approval
- Supervise credit appraisal, risk assessment, and loan approval processes for all credit lines (consumer, SME, corporate, microfinance, etc.).
- Ensure thorough financial, collateral, and borrower background analysis prior to approval.
- Review and approve credit proposals within delegated authority; endorse large exposures to higher approving bodies.
3. Portfolio Management and Risk Monitoring
- Monitor credit portfolio performance, delinquency rates, and provisioning levels.
- Identify early warning signals of portfolio deterioration and recommend corrective actions.
- Coordinate periodic stress testing and portfolio analysis.
- Ensure compliance with BSP and internal credit risk reporting requirements.
4. Leadership and People Management
- Lead, coach, and develop the credit team to ensure strong analytical and risk management capabilities.
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and integrity.
- Provide technical guidance and training to credit officers and relationship managers.
5. Cross-functional Collaboration
- Work with business development units to balance growth with credit quality.
- Collaborate with Risk, Audit, and Compliance units to maintain sound credit governance.
- Participate in management and risk committee meetings.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or related field; MBA or equivalent preferred.
- Minimum of
10 years of experience
in credit risk management, with at least
5 years in a leadership role
within a bank or financial institution. - Deep understanding of
BSP regulations, credit underwriting standards,
and
portfolio management principles. - Proven ability to analyze financial statements and assess borrower risk.
- Excellent leadership, decision-making, and communication skills.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail.
