As a Principal Consultant, you will support in leading the delivery of Azure Data & AI solutions for New Zealand clients from a remote base. You will set solution direction, mentor other offshore consultants, and work with NZ-based leaders to ensure quality outcomes for enterprise and public-sector engagements.

Role Description:

This is a full-time role for an Azure Data Engineer, with work-from-home arrangements acceptable - working with NZ-based consultants. The Azure Data Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and optimising Azure data pipelines, data models, ETL processes, data warehousing solutions, and data analytics. Day-to-day tasks include extracting, transforming, and loading data, developing and maintaining data architectures, analysing data to draw actionable insights, and working with cross-functional teams to support data-driven decision making.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership and ownership of solutions across projects.
  • Mentor and guide offshore team members, supporting knowledge transfer and skills development.
  • Ensure delivery quality and alignment with NZ compliance standards.
  • Work closely with NZ client leads to translate needs into technical execution.
  • Support pre-sales and solutioning activities, including input into proposals and architecture design.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • 8+ years' experience delivering Azure Data & AI platforms.
  • Experience in Snowflake and associated Snowflake capabilities
  • Expertise in enterprise-scale architecture (Landing Zones, Fabric, Snowflake, Databricks, Synapse, Purview).
  • Strong consulting skills and client engagement experience.
  • Good written and spoken English; confident in presenting remotely to senior stakeholders.

Tools and Technology proficiency:

  • ETL/ELT Tools: Azure Data Factory, Snowflake and Snowpark, Synapse Pipelines, Databricks Workflows
  • Data Formats: Parquet, Delta Lake, JSON, Avro, CSV
  • Data Modelling & Governance: Star/Snowflake schema design, Data Vault (advantage), Purview lineage
  • AI/ML Services: Azure Cognitive Services, Azure OpenAI, AutoML, MLflow (basic exposure desirable)
  • Testing & Quality: dbt, Great Expectations (advantage), unit testing frameworks
  • Architecture & Strategy: Azure Landing Zones (ALZ), Medallion Lakehouse pattern, Enterprise Data Platform reference architectures
  • AI/ML Leadership: MLOps, Azure Machine Learning, Responsible AI frameworks
  • Governance & Compliance: NZISM, PSR, ISO27001, data sovereignty controls, Purview RBAC
  • Security & Identity: Azure Key Vault, Entra ID (Azure AD), RBAC/ABAC, Conditional Access
  • Delivery Oversight: Azure DevOps Boards, automated testing pipelines, cost optimisation tools (Azure Cost Management, Advisor)
