Cloud Advocate Role

We are seeking a skilled Cloud Advocate to help us achieve our mission of making open source easier and more reliable for innovators and enterprises.

About the Job

The ideal candidate will be a technical expert, strategist, and communicator with deep empathy for developers. This role combines practical engineering skills with firm diplomacy across organisational boundaries.

Your Responsibilities
  • Participate in team product meetings to contribute insight and expertise.
  • Maintain conversations with developer community members across various platforms.
  • Work with colleagues in other teams to help establish commonality and consistent approaches.
  • Solve specific technical problems identified by users or colleagues.
  • Contribute to technical documentation to meet developer user needs.
  • Develop technical articles, presentations, and workshops.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement in the cloud experience we provide.
  • Promote our products and services through public speaking engagements and thought leadership initiatives.
Requirements
  • You must be a programmer or developer with a passion for open-source software.
  • Experience working with real-world challenges developing and deploying software using Linux is required.
  • Practical hands-on experience with Linux software packaging (including Snaps, debs, charms, rocks, PIP, containers) is necessary.
  • Understanding current software packaging issues and trends in the Linux ecosystem is essential.
  • You must have been a contributor to open-source communities, software, and documentation.
  • An engaging speaker and presenter with excellent communication skills is required.
  • You should be able to work effectively, tactfully, empathetically, and confidently in contexts with different perspectives, needs, and understanding.
Additional Skills
  • Previous experience in a developer advocacy or community role is an advantage.
  • In-depth familiarity with Ubuntu and the Canonical ecosystem of products is beneficial.
