**About the Role**

Job Description

This role is part of a team that provides security coverage across various ecosystems and environments.

The position involves working with experts to monitor, triage, respond to, and document new and existing vulnerabilities in open source software.

The ideal candidate will be productive in a globally distributed team through self-discipline and self-motivation.

Responsibilities
  • Analyzing and fixing vulnerabilities in open source packages
  • Tracking vulnerabilities in the Ubuntu ecosystem as they are discovered, researched, and fixed
  • Collaborating with other teams and upstream developers to exchange or develop vulnerability patches
  • Auditing source code for vulnerabilities
  • Building features and tools to strengthen the security of products and contribute to the overall security of Ubuntu

**Required Skills**

Key Qualifications
  • Understanding of common security vulnerabilities and techniques for fixing them
  • Familiarity with coordinated disclosure practices
  • Knowledge of open source development tools and methodologies
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages (C, Python, Go, Rust, Java, Ruby, PHP, or JavaScript/TypeScript)
  • Excellent problem-solving, troubleshooting, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the team and community members
  • Experience with Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred)
  • Interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability
  • Appreciation of diversity and effective communication in a multi-cultural organization
