Medical Authorization Specialist Job Description

The primary responsibility of a Medical Authorization Specialist is to ensure that all medical services, procedures, and medications are properly authorized prior to their administration. This role requires meticulous attention to detail and excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Review and process medical authorization requests for various medical services, procedures, and medications
  • Verify patient insurance information and eligibility for benefits
  • Handle patient inquiries regarding medical authorizations in a timely and professional manner
  • Provide necessary medical authorization documentation to patients for completion and signature
  • Accurately document all patient, healthcare provider, and insurance carrier interactions in the electronic medical record (EMR)
  • Coordinate with healthcare providers and insurance companies to obtain necessary medical authorizations
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation of authorization requests and approvals
  • Collaborate with the medical billing team to resolve any issues or denials related to medical authorizations
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of medical insurance guidelines and procedures

Requirements:

  • Proven 3-5 years of experience as a Medical Authorization Specialist in the US Healthcare industry
  • Strong understanding of medical insurance verification processes and payer/billing guidelines
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with patients, healthcare providers, and insurers
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and maintain high levels of productivity
