Medical Scribe Role Overview

A medical scribe is a vital member of the healthcare team, responsible for documenting clinical interactions in real-time.

This role allows medical professionals to focus on patient care by handling the documentation side of the encounter.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Accurate Charting: Document real-time patient encounters during virtual or recorded consultations using Electronic Medical Records (EMRs).
  • Patient Information: Accurately capture patient histories, physical exam findings, diagnostic impressions, treatment plans, and follow-up instructions.
  • Chart Maintenance: Update and maintain charts, medication lists, allergies, and problem lists.
  • Administrative Support: Assist with administrative tasks such as templating notes and handling visit summaries.
  • Record Review: Review prior records to provide context for current visits.
  • Communication: Maintain communication with providers for clarification and accuracy of documentation.
  • Compliance: Ensure all documentation is HIPAA-compliant and meets clinical and legal standards.
Requirements:
  • Effective Communication: Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Experience: At least 1–2 years of experience as a medical scribe or in a clinical documentation role.
  • Clinical Knowledge: Familiar with medical terminologies and clinical workflows.
  • Educational Background: A healthcare-related degree is highly preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient with Google Workspace and/or Microsoft Office.
  • EMR Experience: Experience with EMRs such as Epic, Cerner, or AthenaHealth is a plus.
  • HIPAA Certification: HIPAA Certification is a plus.
  • Typing Skills: Fast and accurate typing skills.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail.
  • Organizational Skills: Organized and highly focused.
