Job Overview

Our company is seeking a remote Senior Accountant based in Manila to oversee sales tax compliance across multiple U.S. states.

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled and experienced accountant to join our team and take ownership of sales tax compliance, ensuring 100% accuracy and adherence to regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Sales Tax Compliance: Prepare, reconcile, and file sales and use tax returns across multiple U.S. states and local jurisdictions.
  • Proactive Management: Manage sales tax registrations, nexus tracking, and timely renewals to ensure compliance and minimize risks.
  • Tax Exemptions: Maintain and validate tax exemption certificates and support sales and customer service teams with taxability questions.
  • Tax Engine Configuration: Collaborate with tax engine vendors such as Avalara to configure tax codes and validate system accuracy.
  • State Notices: Monitor and respond to state notices, audits, or discrepancy letters in coordination with legal or external advisors.
  • Research and Updates: Research changes in state and local sales tax laws, providing internal updates and risk guidance.
  • Customer Refunds: Validate and process customer refunds.
  • Weekly Reconciliations: Maintain weekly reconciliations to support the Revenue Accounting process.
  • Month-End Close: Assist the U.S. accounting team with month-end close, including reconciliations, journal entries, and accruals.
  • Audit Support: Help prepare audit schedules, supporting documentation, and answer external auditor questions as needed.
  • Process Improvement: Contribute to internal controls improvement, documentation of processes, and cross-training initiatives.
  • Ad Hoc Projects: Participate in ad hoc projects, such as system upgrades, automation tools, or process optimization.
Required Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum 3–5 years of experience in accounting, preferably including hands-on U.S. sales tax work.
  • Skills: High proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other accounting software.
  • Communication: Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
  • Remote Work: Comfortable working independently in a remote setup and supporting U.S. time zones.
  • Company Experience: Experience working with U.S.-based companies, particularly customers.
  • Resale Certificates: Experience working with company resale sales tax certificates.
  • Automation Tools: Experience using tax automation tools (preferably Avalara) and ERP systems (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics GP, NetSuite).
  • Financial Reporting: Familiarity with Power BI, Power Automate, or cloud-based financial reporting tools.
