This role leads the planning, direction, and oversight of accurate and prompt risk evaluation, classification, and acceptance of new business within set underwriting guidelines and service standards. The position ensures compliance with applicable relevant regulations towards the achievement of its strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities:- Establishes underwriting processes and guidelines to ensure accurate risk evaluation, classification, and acceptance within the set turnaround time.
- Communicates with reinsurers for approval on various underwriting endeavors.
- Implements activities to increase approval rates for new business.
- Promotes collaboration with distribution channels to support business growth.
The incumbent will provide leadership, support, and guidance to the underwriting team while ensuring that the team complies with the organization's goals, objectives, and standards to meet customer satisfaction and deadlines.
- Interprets and implements guidelines for the team.
- Assesses the risk posed by clients to the company.
- Evaluates the efficiency of business procedures according to organizational objectives and drives cross-functional discussions to influence system/process improvements.
The Strategic Risk Management Leader will manage team performance, allocate resources effectively, and accomplish work to meet departmental productivity and quality goals.
- Manages team performance, conducts coaching, and implements corrective action plans for non/underperformance.
- Plans and allocates resources to staff and accomplish work efficiently.
- Bachelor's degree in a related field, preferably with a medical background.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in life insurance underwriting.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in managerial/supervisory capacity.
- FLMI designation.
- Passed at least one ALU exam.
- Results-driven individual.
- Fosters teamwork.
- Handles pressure well.
- Effective communicator.
