Manulife Financial Corporation is seeking a highly skilled Data Scientist to collaborate with various teams to deliver data-driven insights and scalable solutions that align with business objectives.

Job Description

The ideal candidate will have advanced knowledge of programming languages and concepts, including R, Python, and Pyspark. Experience in designing and developing AI, NLP, and LLM powered solutions is also a plus.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Collaborating with multiple teams to provide data-driven insights, develop scalable data solutions, and support business objectives
  2. Identifying opportunities for data-driven solutions, assessing feasibility, and building business cases to demonstrate value and ROI
  3. Researching, prototyping, and developing ML and GenAI powered solutions to enhance automation and decision-making processes
  4. Evaluating and introducing emerging technologies, best practices, and tools to improve the team's capabilities and workflows
Required Skills and Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess a degree in Statistics, Math, Computer Science, Engineering, or other courses with equivalent technical experience. A minimum of 5 years of applicable experience is required, with strong knowledge of machine learning and AI algorithms.

Additional qualifications include:

  • Strong communication skills; able to simplify complex concepts to a broad audience
  • Proficient in querying and analyzing both structured and unstructured data (SQL, NoSQL, JSON, MongoDB)
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects
  • Knowledge in statistical tests, distributions, maximum likelihood estimators, statistical modeling techniques
  • Knowledge in data visualization tools such as PowerBI, plotly, R Shiny, etc.
