Remote Sensing Specialist Job Description

Our organization is seeking a skilled Remote Sensing Specialist to support project design, feasibility assessment, and implementation. The ideal candidate will have expertise in analyzing and modeling remote sensing and geospatial data for applications such as land cover/use mapping, fire risk assessment, above-ground biomass estimation, and deforestation risk modeling.

The successful candidate will leverage cutting-edge technologies, including cloud computing, machine learning, and scripting languages (Python, JavaScript, SQL), to build automated workflows, enhance geospatial infrastructure, and support MRV (Monitoring, Reporting & Verification) processes.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in GIS, Environmental Science, Forestry, Computer Science or related fields.
  • At least 5 years of experience in Remote Sensing & GIS.
  • Experience & expertise in workflow automation, machine learning/deep learning technique for image classification & segmentation (Random Forest, Linear Regression, Artificial Neural Network for nature-based solution carbon project application).
  • Experience in advanced remote sensing analysis & modelling, i.e., image processing both active & passive sensor (image calibration & correction, change detection modelling Land Trendr & CCDC), & image classification.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience of RS/GIS implementation for forestry, conservation, land use in AFOLU carbon projects.
  • Familiarity with photogrammetry software (e.g., Pix4D, DroneDeploy, Agisoft).
  • Programming skills particularly in Python & Google Earth Engine.
  • Familiarity with terms such as land cover, land use, and carbon project modeling.

This role requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Excellent communication and documentation skills are also essential.

The selected candidate will be responsible for providing technical guidance and training to colleagues, ensuring geospatial quality control across teams, and supporting field data collection through drone coordination and validation activities.
