Software Engineering Leadership Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Software Engineering Manager to lead our technical teams in the delivery and ongoing support of Linux kernels for the Ubuntu distribution.

About the Role

This is a unique opportunity for a seasoned professional to take ownership of key aspects of Ubuntu Linux, including working with partners to implement optimized Linux kernels, ensuring wide hardware compatibility, and defining stringent quality control standards.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Lead distributed teams of software engineers in delivering Linux kernels for Ubuntu
  • Take ownership of specific aspects of Ubuntu Linux, such as kernel optimization and quality control
  • Work with silicon and cloud partners to ensure seamless execution environments
  • Mitigate security threats and exploits to the Linux kernel
  • Develop and implement process automation initiatives for kernel build, test, and delivery
Requirements
  • Significant experience in programming languages like C, Python, or Golang
  • Substantial knowledge of operating system kernel internals and concepts
  • Demonstrated experience managing or leading software engineering teams
  • Ability to coordinate between multiple teams to achieve common goals
  • Familiarity with version control practices and software packaging formats
  • Excellent written and spoken English with strong presentation skills
  • Ability to travel internationally for company events
Nice-to-Have Skills
  • Experience with kernel patching and debugging
  • Strong grasp of device drivers and low-level system engineering
  • Solid background in driving CI/CD and process automation initiatives
  • Prior public involvement with open source projects
