Job Overview

The role of a Remote Sensing Specialist involves supporting project design, feasibility assessment, implementation, and long-term monitoring.

  • Analyze and model remote sensing and geospatial data for applications such as land cover/use mapping, fire risk assessment, above-ground biomass estimation, and deforestation risk modeling.
  • Leverage cutting-edge technologies to build automated workflows, enhance geospatial infrastructure, and support MRV processes.
  • Support field data collection through drone coordination and validation activities, providing technical guidance and training, and ensuring geospatial quality control across teams.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement remote sensing projects, including feasibility assessments and long-term monitoring.
  • Model and analyze remote sensing and geospatial data to support various applications, including land cover/use mapping and deforestation risk modeling.
  • Develop and maintain automated workflows using cloud computing, machine learning, and scripting languages.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to teams on remote sensing and geospatial techniques.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in GIS, Environmental Science, Forestry, Computer Science or related fields.
  • At least 5 years of experience in Remote Sensing & GIS.
  • Experience with workflow automation, machine learning/deep learning techniques, and advanced remote sensing analysis & modelling.
  • In-depth knowledge of RS/GIS implementation for forestry, conservation, and land use in AFOLU carbon projects.
  • Familiarity with photogrammetry software and programming skills in Python and Google Earth Engine.
