Job Description

The Business Continuity Planning (BCP) Director plays a pivotal role in ensuring the organization's resilience against disruptive events. This involves developing, implementing, and maintaining strategies, policies, and plans to safeguard critical business functions and promote recovery in alignment with industry standards and organizational objectives.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Developing BCP Policies and Procedures: Design, implement, and maintain comprehensive business continuity and disaster recovery plans, establishing policies and standards that ensure continuity planning aligns with industry regulations and best practices.
  • Risk Assessment and Business Impact Analysis: Conduct regular risk assessments and BIAs to identify critical business functions, potential threats, and the impact of disruptions, collaborating with departments to prioritize resources and outline recovery timelines.
  • Creating and Implementing Continuity Plans: Develop specific continuity and recovery strategies for critical operations, including IT infrastructure, physical assets, and personnel, ensuring plans address various scenarios such as natural disasters, cybersecurity incidents, and other potential disruptions.
  • Coordinating Cross-Functional Teams: Engage with stakeholders across departments to ensure alignment and effective execution of BCP strategies, facilitating clear communication with executive leadership, risk management, IT, operations, and other critical teams.
  • Testing and Drills: Plan and conduct regular BCP testing, including tabletop exercises, fire drills, and full-scale operational tests, identifying gaps in response strategies through testing results and updating the BCP accordingly.
  • Incident Response and Crisis Management: Serve as the lead during actual disruptions, coordinating recovery efforts and resources, ensuring timely communication with employees, stakeholders, and external parties when necessary.
  • Monitoring, Reporting, and Continuous Improvement: Track plan performance metrics, audit for compliance, and report on BCP readiness to senior management, updating the BCP based on evolving risks, new regulations, technological changes, and feedback from tests and incidents.
  • Vendor and Third-Party Risk Management: Assess the business continuity capabilities of critical vendors and third parties to ensure alignment with organizational BCP standards, establishing agreements with key vendors for priority support and resources during disruptions.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay informed on regulatory requirements related to business continuity, particularly in highly regulated sectors, ensuring all continuity plans comply with local, state, federal, and industry-specific guidelines.
