Job Title: Social Media Journalist

Description:

We are seeking a creative and digitally savvy professional to produce engaging, news-focused short-form videos and written content across various social media platforms. The ideal candidate is passionate about current affairs, understands social media trends, and knows how to craft stories that spark conversations and connect with online communities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Produce high-quality, news-focused content for TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube, including short news recaps, stitched videos, explainers, fact-checks, and commentary.
  • Research trending topics and conduct thorough fact-checking to ensure accuracy and credibility.
  • Develop compelling story angles, script, and create a narrative flow that resonates with audiences.
  • Write engaging captions, headlines, and hooks optimized for different platforms.
  • Stay updated on social media trends and viral content formats to ensure content remains relevant and competitive.
  • Transform editorial articles into concise, engaging video content tailored to each platform's best practices.
  • Monitor video performance metrics to refine content strategy and improve engagement.

Requirements:

  • Diploma/Degree in Mass Communications, Journalism, Media Studies, or related field preferred.
  • Prior experience in content creation, social media management, or digital journalism is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms, their audiences, and content trends.
  • Proficiency in video editing and design software.
  • Ability to research and analyse news and factual information, with strong skills in fact-checking and distilling insights into clear, audience-friendly stories.
  • Comfortable crafting concise, impactful narratives that bring news and facts to life in social-first video formats.
  • Keen sense of storytelling, pacing, and visual composition with interest in current affairs, news, and social issues.
  • Creative thinker with a strong sense of what resonates with digital audiences.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with creative teams.
