Climate Change Campaign Specialist

Our organisation seeks a seasoned campaigner to navigate risks in tackling climate change, anti-democracy and dis/misinformation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Engage with campaigns at various stages to provide a risk management perspective.
  • Provide guidance on campaign materials/direction to internal teams and partners, focusing on compliance and safety risks.
  • Collaborate with the Risk Manager and Executive teams to determine the appropriate escalation path for high-risk activities.
  • Support teams in identifying, assessing and monitoring project risks during planning and implementation. Assist in addressing risk issues, working with line managers to analyse and rate risks, assess mitigation activities, and develop response plans.
  • Review current processes to identify gaps and opportunities for improvement.
  • Operationalise and support internal governance processes related to managing campaign risks.
  • Assist in country risk profiles when determining campaign feasibility and support legal teams in undertaking risk assessments.
  • Promote a culture of risk awareness and accountability through training, education and risk management consultative support. Work with network teams to ensure risk is monitored and managed appropriately, and assess the effectiveness of mitigation actions.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Experience in campaigns and risk management, preferably in an international organisation or with a global footprint; non-profit and/or communications experience is an asset.
  • Strong cross-cultural experience and communication skills.
  • Experience working in asynchronous environments.
  • A strong understanding of risk management methodologies and flexibility to adapt these skills to suit the organisation, particularly in promoting an enabling mindset.
  • Excellent facilitation skills in group and individual settings, with the ability to hold complex conversations and manage disagreements.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to build relationships across levels and effectively communicate and manage interpersonal relationships within the network and Risk team.
  • Fluency in English, our working language; additional languages are an asset.
  • A genuine interest in and passion for addressing climate change.
  • The disposition to work generously with colleagues in a high-trust global community of peers.
  • The versatile and adaptable skills necessary to thrive in a fast-paced and wide-ranging work environment and work across time zones using tools like Zoom, Slack and email (Google Workspace).
  • A commitment to an inclusive and empowering approach to facing climate change.
