Medical Records Specialist

This is a remote job that requires the candidate to be highly organized and detail-oriented. The job involves receiving, validating, and fulfilling medical records requests from various sources.

Job Description

The Medical Records Specialist will be responsible for:

  • Receiving and logging all incoming records requests
  • Verifying identity/authority of requestors
  • Confirming scope, purpose, and expiration of authorizations
  • Applying the minimum-necessary standard
  • Maintaining confidentiality and security of sensitive information

The specialist will also be required to:

  • Route complex/legal matters to Privacy/Compliance and Lead Accounting Assistant for guidance/approval
  • Paginate and assemble PDFs, redact restricted content as directed
  • Send records via approved secure methods (encrypted email, secure portal, or secure fax)
  • Record date/time, contents, recipient, method, and authorizing document
Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, candidates must have:

  • 2+ years of experience in medical records, health information management, payer documentation support, or billing/finance operations in a healthcare setting
  • Proven knowledge of HIPAA privacy/security requirements and the minimum necessary standard
  • Strong written communication skills: concise, professional, and empathetic
  • High accuracy with document handling, PDF redaction, and file organization
