Bookkeeper Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Bookkeeper to manage day-to-day bookkeeping in Xero, reconcile accounts, process invoices, manage expenses, and handle general ledger entries.

This role involves using Dext to capture, code, and file supplier receipts and invoices; ensuring digital documents are organized and audit-ready.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for processing and tracking accounts payable and receivable, preparing supplier payments and chasing incoming payments as needed.

Collaboration with the builder/director is essential to support accurate job costing: allocating materials, labour, and overhead to relevant projects.

Regular reconciliation of bank and credit card statements is required.

A monthly management report must be prepared: P&L, cash-flow statements, project cost summaries.

The Bookkeeper will assist with BAS (Business Activity Statement) preparation and liaise with external accountants for GST and tax matters.

Additionally, ad-hoc admin support is expected—preparing reports, compiling project documents, and assisting with marketing efforts (e.g., social media graphics, newsletter setup).

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Proven experience (2+ years) in bookkeeping using Xero.
  • Proficiency with Dext (or similar receipt-capturing tools).
  • Strong understanding of bookkeeping workflows: invoicing, reconciliation, tracking expenses, and job costing.
  • Exceptional organisational skills and attention to detail in both financial and admin tasks.
  • Comfortable working in a small, collaborative team where adaptability is key.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
