Job Overview

The role of a Software Asset Management (SAM) Specialist is pivotal in ensuring the optimal utilization and compliance of software licenses within an organization. This position demands a strong background in software licensing, with expertise in managing licenses for multiple publishers.

Key responsibilities include monitoring and enforcing compliance with software licensing agreements to prevent legal issues and financial penalties. Additionally, the SAM Specialist will collaborate with procurement teams to negotiate and acquire software licenses at favorable terms and pricing.

Maintaining an up-to-date inventory of software licenses, tracking usage, expiration dates, and renewal requirements is also a critical function. The ideal candidate will identify opportunities to reduce software licensing costs while maintaining required functionality.

Strong relationships with software vendors are essential, as is staying informed about updates, changes in licensing models, and future licensing trends. Developing and implementing software licensing policies and guidelines ensures consistency and compliance across the organization.

Regular software license audits, report preparation, and recommendations for optimization are key responsibilities. Educating internal teams on software licensing compliance and best practices rounds out the job's requirements.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, Business, or a related field (master's degree preferred).
  • In-depth knowledge of software licensing models including proprietary, open source, and cloud-based licenses.
  • Experience managing IBM Licenses and other enterprise licenses.
  • Experience in negotiating software licensing agreements.
  • Familiarity with license management tools and software asset management (SAM) practices.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills and collaboration skills to work effectively in a global, cross-functional team.
  • Legal knowledge related to software licensing is beneficial.
