Job description

Payroll Specialist is responsible for providing accurate, timely, and efficient payroll services. They are required to assist in the timely preparation of payroll-related data, statistics, and other reports from the Payroll systems. They will assist in the provision of an advisory and consultancy service to management and staff on a range of payroll-related matters:

- Maintains payroll production records, and/or the payroll system, mergers, and acquisitions.

- May be responsible for computing, withholding, and deductions associated with net earnings.

- Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

- Performs a variety of tasks. Works under direct supervision.

Responsibilities & Duties:

Ensure the operational aspects of payroll processing and associated activities, including salary disbursement, overpayment recovery, leave management and reporting are accurate and delivered within appropriate timeframes and comply with relevant legislation.
Provide a responsive, accurate client advisory service on payroll matters, resolve straightforward inquiries and assist in identifying payroll errors and implement corrective action where required to ensure employee payments are processed accurately and database integrity is maintained
Contribute to process improvement by participating in a range of payroll activities. All functions associated with the preparation and completion of each authorized pay run, calculation of employment termination payments, updating employee contract/salary changes as approved by the Payroll Team Leader, ensuring all incoming, are verified and approved by the appropriate supervisor, follow up of any outstanding forms, assisting management with a review of fortnightly payroll reports, payment to superannuation funds on a monthly basis including notification of new and terminating employees and reconciliation of superannuation reports
Payment of salary packaging amounts, union fees, child support, social club contributions, and other payroll-related items
Maintenance of payroll files and records, including the regular filing of correspondence and forms, liaison with staff in relation to any payroll matters or queries relating to employee entitlements, liaison with management and the HR office in relation to appointment and termination of employees, leave entitlements, and other payroll matters.
Assistance with the induction of new staff including a detailed briefing on payroll forms and processes.
Monitoring changes in best practice payroll processes and, subject to approval, implementing the processes Year-end payroll compliance including preparation of Payment Summaries and related reconciliations.
Ensuring compliance with legislation and employment conditions
Keeping knowledge of legislation that affects the payroll up to date by research and subscriptions as well as attendance at various workshops and training seminars
Providing accurate and timely payroll information and reports to stakeholders as needed
Provide routine transactional reporting for the following processes on a global basis including hire to Retire
Qualifications & Requirements:

BA/BS + None or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
BA/BS + None or AA/AS (US) + 2 YORE or Diploma/Certificate (Canada) + 2 YORE or HS/GED + 4 YOR
Applies knowledge within an area to a project to solve straightforward problems and is also able to apply that knowledge to typical situations.
Works independently and collaboratively with moderate level of guidance
Work is regularly reviewed by supervisors and more senior team membersContributes within an area of knowledge on a project, solving a range of straightforward problems, and applying that knowledge to atypical assignmentsAnalyzes and applies solutions to typical issues within the area of expertise within a sub-group or team within their function, business unit, or technical discipline, using standard operating procedures/methodologies as a basisRequires a college degree or the equivalent work experience that provides knowledge and exposure to fundamental theories, principles and concepts
