JOB TITLE: Special Education Academic Advisor

CLASSIFICATION: Exempt

REPORTS TO: Assistant Director of Academic Advisors

JOB GOAL:

The Special Education Academic Advisor is responsible to analyze, verify and record external and internal school records and to ensure students are progressing towards grade level promotion and graduation requirements. The Academic Advisor provides guidance, support and customer service to students and families. The Special Education Academic Advisor acts as a key communicator of important school information.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


• Valid and active Pennsylvania teaching certification preferred


• Child Abuse Clearance; Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Clearance

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


• Provide quality customer service and support for all students.


• Communicate important school information to families via email and phone.


• Field incoming parent and student calls and respond to emails and voicemails within 24 hours.


• Advise students on appropriate course selections.


• Schedule courses and order materials as necessary


• Maintain accurate contact logs and academic records for students.


• Gather all academic records and create and continuously update graduation check sheets.


• Plan, organize and facilitate orientations for new students.


• Monitor, verify, and gather appropriate information/documentation and process requests for student data and residency changes.


• Identify academic issues and make appropriate referrals.


• Request course extensions for third party courses


• Assist Attendance Office and Child Accounting Office as requested


• Initiate or assist in completion and monitoring of homeless paperwork.


• Work with ESL Supervisor to place and monitor ELL students.


• Initiate the IAT process and paperwork.


• Communicate student state assessment results with families, as necessary.


• Approve and process course transfer requests.


• Complete student withdrawals as necessary


• Participate in enrollment events as requested by Director or Assistant Director of Academic Advisors


• Proctor PSSA and Keystone testing as needed.


• Participate in at least 2 promotional and/or extracurricular events.


• Create and/or complete official forms and letters: Social Security, medical insurance, car insurance, welfare, etc.


• Keep up to date regarding all school policies, procedures and programs in order to assist PA Cyber students and families.


• Report school eligibility requirements to student's home school district as requested.


• Follow approved procedures for releasing student records.


• Participates in meetings or assist departments in gathering student information as requested.


• Perform any additional duties as deemed necessary by the administration.
