JOB SUMMARY

The Product Development Specialist is responsible for the end-to-end development of private label and exclusive merchandise assortments for Metro Retail. This role involves translating market trends and consumer insights into innovative, highly-quality, and commercially viable products that align with the brand's aesthetic, target customer, and financial objectives. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of product lifecycle, materials, product packaging, and global fashion trend forecasting, with a keen eye for branding design and detail.

  1. Trend Research & Concept Development

  • Conduct extensive market research, global fashion trend forecasting, and competitive analysis (including retail visits, trade shows, and online research)

  • Collaborate with the Product Development Head and Merchandising teams to develop seasonal concepts, mood boards, and design briefs that align with overall brand strategy and developmental goals.

  1. Product Design & Specification

  • Work closely with Product Development Head to bring concepts to life through sketches, technical drawings, and detailed product specifications (thru Adobe Illustrator and/or Adobe Photoshop).

  1. Sample Management & Approval

  • Manage the entire sample development process of items and packaging from general merchandise and home department.

  • Conduct thorough reviews and provide detailed feedback on all sample stages (fit, aesthetics, quality, functionality) to ensure products meet design intent and quality standards. Determine whether the packaging types for each product align with the Brand Book.

  1. Project Management & Timeline Management

  • Develop and manage the product development calendar, ensuring all milestones are met on time and within budget.

  • Proactively identify potential roadblocks and implement solutions to keep projects on track.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's/College Degree in Fashion Design, Product Development, Merchandising, Textile Science, or equivalent

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in product development, preferably in retail or department store environment. Newly graduate candidates are welcome to apply.

  • Proficient in MS Office, knowledgeable in Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop. Familiar with PLM system is a plus.
