Overview

Manager, Global Merchant & Network Services Operational Risk. The Global Risk & Compliance Organization ensures that American Express operates in a safe, sound, and compliant manner. The Operational Risk Management (ORM) team facilitates and monitors the implementation of effective operational risk management programs across the company, and oversees risk ownership throughout business units, products, and processes. The Senior Manager will join a diverse team focused on risk identification, assessment, and mitigation across Global Merchant & Network Services, while aligning with the enterprise risk management framework.

Reporting directly to the Director, Global Merchant & Network Services, this role provides independent oversight and challenge of first-line risk practices to ensure risks are managed effectively and in compliance with regulatory expectations.

Responsibilities
  • Support independent oversight and challenge of first-line risk identification, assessment, and mitigation efforts within Global Merchant & Network Services to ensure alignment with enterprise risk standards
  • Analyze business processes to identify potential risks, control gaps, and emerging risks
  • Assist in applying the enterprise risk management framework across Global Merchant & Network Services
  • Embed risk management practices into daily operations and decision-making
  • Track and analyze key risk indicators (KRIs) and provide insights into risk trends
  • Contribute to risk reporting for senior management, risk committees, and regulatory engagements
  • Maintain understanding of relevant regulations and industry expectations to support compliance
  • Conduct risk assessments, scenario analyses, and deep dives to evaluate control effectiveness
  • Monitor risk-related issues and ensure appropriate remediation
Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience in risk management, preferably in a second-line function within financial services
  • Knowledge of risk management frameworks with the ability to independently assess and challenge first-line practices
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to translate complex risk concepts into actionable insights
  • Understanding of operational and regulatory risks
  • Proficiency in risk management tools, data analysis, and reporting systems
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with actionable insights
  • Detail-oriented, proactive, with strong prioritization in a dynamic environment
  • High ethical standards and integrity
  • Knowledge of merchant and network services
