Talent Acquisition Supervisor @ P&A Grant Thornton | Registered Psychometrician JOB DESCRIPTION DETAILS The Database Administrator ensures that IT-related administrative infrastructure and systems are functioning properly, efficiently, and securely with minimal downtime; that end-users receive the appropriate levels of rights and privileges to system resources required for them to carry out their work effectively and efficiently. PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Monitor and proactively maintain a multi-server environment consisting of SQL Server 2005 and 2008 servers on both Windows 2003 and above platforms in production, staging and laboratory environments Assist with certification and accreditation as well as security remediation for various business applications with a focus on database related tasks Develop and implement improved processes for server maintenance, back‑up and recovery, fail‑over and clustering Meet with both internal and external teams to gather requirements for upcoming database needs, implementation of those requirements, testing and monitoring for specific functional and performance targets Maintain documentation for maintenance processes, server configurations (both how to configure and current configurations) Assist with packaging software releases for deployment to staging and production for both vendor and custom‑developed systems Support data calls and specific applications as needed from both the database and application server standpoint Actively participate and uphold required business processes and standards such as incident reporting, time accountability, versioning, naming conventions, etc. as needed Maintain, administer, and monitor Firm related databases and data stores Propose improvements to directories and directory structures to facilitate ease of administration. Propose, plan and implement security solutions to counter and prevent threats of all forms Prepare detailed data backup and recovery plans for all platforms Conduct routine backups of server data on all platforms Perform recovery of data when required Perform any other tasks deemed necessary by superiors Mapping out the conceptual design for a planned database and refining the logical design so that it can be translated into a specific data model; Installing and testing new versions of the DBMS; maintaining data standards, including adherence to the local regulations; writing database documentation, including data standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary (metadata); controlling access permissions and privileges QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or other related fields At least one year of experience as a Database Admin on Windows platform and in administering SQL/Pervasive, Oracle, Linux/UNIX Understanding of performance monitoring tools, index and query optimization Knowledge of SQL Server architecture, such as objects, schemas, system database, SQL Services and SQL Agent Knowledge of SQL Server backup/restore and other maintenance strategies Ability to troubleshoot and solve SQL Server performance issues Experience writing SQL statements PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Strong analytical and organizational skills Eye for detail and accuracy Works well under pressure and position is on‑call basis Business awareness and understanding of IT requirements #J-18808-Ljbffr
