The Database Administrator will be responsible for managing, optimizing, and securing databases within production Linux environments. This role ensures high availability, reliability, and scalability of database systems, while collaborating with development and system administration teams to support business operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, and maintain MySQL and PostgreSQL databases in production environments.
  • Administer Linux servers (Ubuntu, CentOS, RHEL) including system monitoring, tuning, and patching.
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts (Bash, Shell, Python/Perl) for routine tasks.
  • Design and implement database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Ensure database security, access control, encryption, and compliance with audit requirements.
  • Monitor database and system performance using tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Nagios, or pg_stat_statements.
  • Manage source control repositories (Git) and support containerization (Docker) and CI/CD pipeline integrations.
  • Plan for database/system capacity, server provisioning, and system audits.
  • Document processes, procedures, and best practices for operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve automation and overall system reliability.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent hands-on experience).
  • 3–5+ years of experience managing MySQL/PostgreSQL databases in production Linux environments.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Database Management: Installation, configuration, tuning, and replication for MySQL/PostgreSQL.
  • Linux Administration: Strong command-line and system management skills (Ubuntu, CentOS, RHEL).
  • Scripting & Automation: Proficiency in Bash, Shell scripting, and familiarity with Python/Perl.
  • Backup & Recovery: Designing and executing database backup and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Security & Compliance: Implementing access controls, encryption, and auditing.
  • Monitoring & Optimization: Using Prometheus, Grafana, Nagios, pg_stat_statements for performance tuning.
  • Version Control & CI/CD: Git repository management, Docker containerization, CI/CD pipeline integration.
  • Infrastructure: Server provisioning, capacity planning, and system auditing.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to collaborate across development and sysadmin teams.
  • Clear documentation and process discipline.
  • Proactive mindset for automation and efficiency improvements.
  • Cloud exposure (AWS RDS, GCP Cloud SQL, or Azure DB); familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible).
