Stakeholder Engagement Officer

Overview of the role The successful applicant will be based in ZSL-Philippines field office in Tuguegarao City with corresponding fieldwork and travel to project sites. The post-holder will work directly with ZSL - Project Manager and Senior Community Organizer, who will provide guidance and instructions on daily tasks, data and information to be collected and reports to be generated. Key responsibilities Provide a direct point of contact with the farmer/fisher communities and support engagement through community meetings and open participation with the SCO; Assist and liaise with government, academic, private and NGO project partners and develop working relationships, including negotiation of Memoranda of Understanding or contracts to formalize and clarify details of partnership; Assist SCO in the conduct of riparian survey and participatory land use planning workshop; Facilitate community training programs bringing in expert knowledge where necessary (field visits, sustainable livelihoods, organizational skills, business skills, ecology etc); Data management and draft riparian and socio-economic survey report with the STS; Set and adhere to relevant project objectives and annual work plan as agreed with the Senior Community Organizer and project manager at start of project and annually via ZSL’s Performance and Development Review process; Input to monthly technical reports and key performance indicators (KPIs), and technical reports in co-ordination with the SCO and project manager, for review by the technical advisor and project Officer based in the UK; Facilitate the establishment of the Peoples Organizations through community meetings and arranging Local Government Unit visits; About You A university graduate preferably with a background in social or conservation sciences, and degree in forestry (or equivalent). Good research and analytical skills. Experience of community organizing and associated skills e.g. community meetings, coordination with partners, facilitations, IEC etc. Good understanding of community-based conservation initiatives. Good IT skills; computer literate with good skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and GIS programs. Strong communication skills at both community and local government levels. Good command of English both oral and written. Project Staff Base This post is based in ZSL Philippines Tuguegarao Field Office and field activities in freshwater project sites (Alcala, Baggao, Penablanca). Over the past 15 years ZSL-Philippines has gained ground in mangrove conservation ranging from in-situ rehabilitation projects, development of science-based planting protocols, reversion of abandoned, unproductive, and underutilized (AUU) fishponds, capacity building of local and national mangrove practitioners, and national policy advocacy on mangrove reversion and restoration of coastal greenbelts. Since 2013 ZSL-Philippines bolstered its work on seahorse conservation and locally managed marine protected areas (MPAs) in the Philippines especially in Danajon Bank, Bohol. MPA work expanded to other parts of the Visayas, and most recently in Siargao islands and Masinloc, Zambales. ZSL-Philippines implements freshwater conservation in northern Luzon particularly protecting the endangered Philippine eels from overexploitation. From 2018, ZSL-Philippines played an active role in the conservation of Palawan pangolins and its habitats, alongst side improvement of communities protecting them. The conservation of the endangered Mindoro tamaraw adds to its programme portfolio in 2023. To date, ZSL-Philippines has 36 staff based in its home and field offices and hubs: Iloilo, Puerto Princesa, Tuguegarao, Siargao, and Masinloc with an annual budget of £200,000 per annum and supported with robust financial, human resources, and health and safety management systems.
